Join ALP on a pilgrimage to the tomb of the Apostle St. Andrew along the Amalfi Coast among high cliffs dropping into the sea and beautiful coastal towns. This pilgrimage is a great way to escape the tourist crowds and to discover the backroads. On our hike from Sorrento to Amalfi, there will be crystal clear waters, historic sights, excellent food, and a deep spiritual heritage to immerse yourself in.

ITINERARY

Naples & Sorrento

Days 1-2: Visit the Cathedral of Naples and the relics of St. Januarius before heading to our lodging in Sorrento I Enjoy views of Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri in the distance I Explore Sorrento and its small streets filled with lemon-based products I Pray in the Church of St. Francis and the Cathedral of Sorrento

Sorrentine Peninsula

Days 2-3: ALP has put together a route along various pre-existing trails headed to the tomb of St. Andrew in Amalfi I Hike from Sorrento to Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi and enjoy views of both the Bay of Naples and Bay of Salerno I Hike to Positano and enjoy sweeping views of the Sorrentine Peninsula I Pray at the relics of St. Vitus, patron saint of Positano, in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta

Amalfi Coast

Days 3-7: Hike the Path of the Gods, the most famous trail on the Amalfi Coast, between Positano and Praiano I Hike to Conca dei Marini with a stop in the Fjord of Furore for a swim I The last day of hiking brings us into Amalfi I Pray at the tomb of St. Andrew, explore the rest of the Cathedral, and explore the town I Celebratory dinner and departure the morning of Day 7

We will be staying mainly in the guest accommodations of religious houses, but we may also stay in some hotels. Air conditioner is generally not available.

EATING

We will be eating mainly at restaurants. Menus may be limited to fixed options or set menus. Some lunches will be picnics. Breakfasts provided are in the local style (typically not as hearty as American style). We can accommodate most food allergies.



BACKPACKS

All of your belongings must fit in a backpack worn on your back. We will only be hiking with our backpacks one day, but there will be walking in towns with stairs. We will provide a detailed packing list.



PRAYING

Prayer is at the heart of our pilgrimage. Daily Mass, the liturgy of the hours, and the rosary will be available throughout. We hope to have a chaplain on the trip but we cannot guarantee it.

“Optional” means it is easy for you to skip the activity. Skipping or modifying other routes may be possible but not in as easy of a manner. Activities are weather-dependent. Distances and durations may vary from the information given above

ARRIVAL

Naples International Airport (NAP) ALP staff will greet you at the Naples airport. The official pilgrimage start time is noon on arrival day, but please arrive as early in the morning as you can. Please wait for a confirmation to buy a plane ticket. You may also meet us at the cathedral in Naples if you decide to arrive in Naples by train due to better flight deals into Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO). Please note that if you are delayed past 3pm, you will need to meet us in Sorrento. ALP staff will give you instructions.

DEPARTURE

Naples International Airport (NAP)
Departure will be in the morning on Day 7.

TRANSPORTATION

We will be using a variety of transportation on this pilgrimage, both public and private. We will be using some ferries, private taxis and shuttles, and may occasionally hop on a bus or train

INSURANCE

Each pilgrim should have health insurance. We highly recommend purchasing traveler’s insurance as well.

ELIGIBILITY

Must be comfortable with the activities and activity levels listed and have a sense of adventure. If under 18, must be accompanied by a chaperone and will likely need to purchase a lodging upgrade.
