Join us on an incredible journey to Lourdes and the Pyrenees Mountains choosing from a variety of activities along the way including downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and biking. In addition to experiencing different seasons due to different elevations, you will get a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the mountains combined with the profound depth and grace of the Sanctuary of Lourdes in one trip. Delicious French cuisine, great company, and a daily prayer rhythm await you all along the way!

ITINERARY

Cauterets

Days 1-4: Explore Cauterets, famous for its natural thermal baths I 2 days of downhill skiing/snowboarding at the Cirque du Lys reachable by cablecar from town taking you 3,000ft up I Choose an additional day on the slopes or head to the Pyrenees National Park and the famous Pont d’Espagne to cross country ski or snowshoe with the option to hike back to Cauterets on the Waterfall Trail

Lourdes

Days 5-7: Optional downhill bike ride from Cauterets to Lourdes I Pray at the grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Bernadette I Discover the places associated with St. Bernadette’s life and learn the story of the apparitions I Visit the three basilicas of Lourdes I Wash in the Lourdes water and bottle up some to bring home to family and friends

EATING

We eat mainly at restaurants. Menus may be limited to fixed options or set menus. Some meals may be picnics. Breakfasts provided are in the local style (typically not as hearty as American style). We can accommodate most food allergies.



LUGGAGE

You may bring any type of luggage with you on this trip. This particular itinerary is not a backpack-only pilgrimage. We will provide a detailed packing list.



PRAYING

Prayer is at the heart of our pilgrimages. Daily mass, the liturgy of the hours, the rosary, and other prayer opportunities are available throughout the pilgrimage for you to join as you like. We hope to have a chaplain on every trip, but we cannot guarantee this.

Skiing/Snowboarding

The Cirque du Lys ski area has slopes of various difficulty levels. You can see a map here and get more information on the ski area here.

Cross Country Skiing/Snowshoeing

There are 22 miles of cross country ski trails to choose from, great for all levels. There are about 4 miles of marked snowshoe trails.
